Information Technology Acceptable Use Policy for Students

1. Purpose

Students of MGI, Bangalore, have access to the internet and IT systems as per institutional policies and age-appropriate guidelines. The school reserves the right to monitor, restrict, and regulate internet access in compliance with applicable laws. This policy ensures students and parents understand their responsibilities when using MGI’s IT infrastructure.

2. Usage Guidelines

Incidents

  • Any suspected IT security breaches must be reported immediately to the IT HelpDesk at MGI.

 

Applications & Software

  • All school-provided devices (computers, tablets, etc.) come pre-installed with authorized applications.

  • Installing unauthorized software is strictly prohibited.

 

Data Storage & Ownership

  • All data stored on MGI-owned devices or networks is considered the property of the institution.

  • Temporary data may be deleted at any time without prior notice.

 

Copyright & Intellectual Property

  • Unauthorized copying, downloading, or distribution of copyrighted material violates Indian Copyright Law and is strictly prohibited.

 

Hacking & Unauthorized Access

  • Attempting to hack, bypass security measures, or gain unauthorized access to IT systems is a serious offense and may result in disciplinary action or legal consequences.

 

Prohibited Activities

The following actions are considered inappropriate use of IT resources and are strictly forbidden:

  • Accessing pornographic, extremist, or illegal websites.

  • Engaging in cyberbullying, harassment, or spreading misinformation.

  • Downloading or distributing pirated software, movies, or copyrighted content.

  • Sharing offensive, discriminatory, or politically sensitive content.

  • Harming the reputation of MGI or misusing its digital platforms.

  • Visiting or sharing links to websites that promote violence, religious intolerance, or discrimination.

3. Internet Usage

  • Internet access at MGI is primarily for educational and academic purposes.

  • Downloading or accessing illegal, obscene, defamatory, or entertainment-related content is strictly prohibited.

  • Internet usage will be monitored and logged for security and compliance purposes.

4. Email Usage

  • MGI provides an official student email ID, which must be used solely for academic purposes.

  • Students must not share their email credentials with others.

  • Any receipt of inappropriate, phishing, or suspicious emails must be reported immediately.

  • Forgotten passwords or suspected email hacking should be reported to IT HelpDesk for recovery.

5. Virtual Learning & Online Classes

  • Students must log in using their official MGI credentials to access online classes.

  • Sharing virtual class links with outsiders is strictly prohibited.

  • Recording of virtual classes by students or parents is not allowed. Only teachers may record sessions for educational purposes as per MGI’s data privacy policies.

6. Virus Protection & Cybersecurity

  • Spreading viruses, malware, or engaging in cyber threats is a punishable offense under the Indian IT Act.

  • Any suspected virus infections should be reported to IT HelpDesk immediately.

7. Social Media Usage

  • Access to social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) is restricted on MGI’s premises.

  • Students must not use social media to share defamatory, offensive, or inappropriate content related to MGI.

  • Only authorized school social media accounts may be used for official communication.

8. Instant Messaging & Video Conferencing

  • MGI provides access to G-Suite, Microsoft 365, and other academic communication tools.

  • Personal instant messaging via school devices is logged and subject to review if necessary.

  • MGI reserves the right to monitor communications for security, compliance, or disciplinary investigations.

 

9. Consequences of Policy Violations

  • Any student found violating this policy may face disciplinary action, including suspension or expulsion.

  • Legal action may be taken if a student’s actions result in liabilities for MGI.

  • By using MGI’s IT resources, students and parents acknowledge and agree to comply with this policy.

10. Changes to This Policy
